This year has been a great year for open-world games, with high profile releases like Cyberpunk 2077 and Monster Hunter Rise already being out. But with the recent wrap of E3 2021, it’s clear that there are a lot more video games on the way — some less obvious than others.
There are some interesting titles coming in 2021, including a few big online games as well as one or two reboots of fan-favorites. Here are a few futuristic new games that you may not have heard about but need to be on the lookout for, because you never know you might just find the best open world survival games.
In Occupy Mars: The astronaut in player’s role is trying to colonize Mars. Conquering the alien wastes requires a lot of work – building a base, maintaining systems, and ensuring there is plenty of life support.
It seems to be more akin to games like Subnautica with a bit more realism added in. There are no archaic or futuristic weapons, just the environmental challenges of Mars and reactionary degradation from air pollution.
State of Decay 3
State of Decay 3 will be the latest installment in a popular zombie survival series. The franchise’s established emphasis is on base-building survival mechanics, where players have trouble keeping a community of survivors alive in a post-apocalyptic world, The cold setting of the game would significantly challenge previous games.

While many fans were expecting the latest Fable game to continue the established timeline and signature gameplay, it’s shaping up to be a reboot of the series.
